DnD Map 2 Feedback

  DND MAP 2 PLAYTEST LOGAN VAN DYNE Our second Dungeons and Dragons map was completely different from the first- With a new ruleset, mechanic system, and prompts to work with, we had to rebuild everything we’ve done and essentially start completely new for the level design, characters, enemies, bosses, and even new items. The prompt for our level was a prison break in the setting of a post apocalyptic alien invasion, and we had to incorporate checkpoints, item drops, and ensure that this level was a step up from the previous tutorial difficulty we had previously worked with. We used annotated maps to lay out basic ideas for more complicated level design concepts, starting with the checkpoints. With the way I laid them out, they would be present before or after difficult encounters, however after playtesting, many of the enemies were either too weak or too strong. DnD Map V2 Feedback

 DND MAP 1 (V2) LOGAN VAN DYNE Previously, we did a playtest of our first simple tutorial map for Dungeons and Dragons. After getting feedback from our players and reviewing the level to determine its flaws and how to improve upon its design and mechanics, we made an updated version of the same map and expanded or altered its features. At its core, the level design itself is still the same, however it has since been improved, expanded, and edited to function better and give the players more freedom during their gameplay experience.  In the previous iteration of the level, players were only able to explore a portion of the pirate ship and the corresponding beach, which left them feeling rather isolated. Even though there was some freedom in the direction they could go, they were still bottlenecked into following a rather tight path. DnD Map 1 - First Playtest Feedback

 DND MAP 1 PLAYTEST LOGAN VAN DYNE      Our first glimpse into the art of level design was based around a map-creating website called “RollD20” in which we created our own started Dungeons and Dragons maps, complete with playable characters and enemies for our playtesters to utilize to get a feel of the level and the flow we create for it.  My two playtesters chose the Warrior class and the Ranger class. The classes don’t mean much at this time, they are more cosmetic than anything with how the stats are set up. We were presented with four stats to give the characters, however we only had three slots to add them into, so I omitted the magic stat, as it did not do anything for the purpose of the playtest. The only stats that mattered were Health, Defense, and Damage. We tested the level by having the players run through the course of the level, following the path presented to them while defeating enemies and making their way to the final boss.     ...
